It is 2010 in Tsukishima, Tokyo. Retired former neighbours Sato and Tanaka complete the small and personal ritual that they have been doing for the last 10 years; each month Tanaka, now a farmer, brings a sack of rice to Sato, and Sato, a former newspaper editor, tells Tanaka a story in return.
During one of these regular exchanges, the two men discover that the rice sack contains an endless black hole. Bored of their retired and widowed lives, Sato convinces Tanaka to go inside it, taking both men on a journey through time and memory, and allowing them to confront the tragedy in their respective lives.
